Early Life & Career Beginnings
- August 16, 1954: James Francis Cameron born in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada.
- 1971: His family moves to Brea, California, when he is 17.
- 1970s (Early): Enrolls in Fullerton College to study physics but drops out to work various jobs, including a machinist and a truck driver.
- 1977: Inspired by watching Star Wars, he quits his trucking job to pursue a career in film, teaching himself about special effects.
- 1978: Directs his first short film, Xenogenesis.
- Early 1980s: Works as a miniature model maker, art director, and special effects assistant for director Roger Corman's New World Pictures.
- 1981: Makes his feature-film directorial debut with Piranha II: The Spawning.
Breakthrough & Acclaim
- 1984: Directs and writes The Terminator, which becomes a surprise box office success and establishes his reputation.
- 1985: Writes the screenplay for Rambo: First Blood Part II.
